Eyota

Eyota (e-yo-ta) meaning "Superior" or “Highest”

In the early 1860’s, Eyota was a pivotal destination for the mail and businessmen alike. It was an important shipping point for locally raised grain and cattle. Located only a mile from a wye with rail extensions that lead north to Plainview and south to Chatfield, this made Eyota a common stopping point for travelers on their way to other destinations. The railroad was an important local employer and later it became the Chicago & North Western Railway.

Eyota has a well established park system with picnic shelters, ball diamonds, volleyball court, frisbee golf, skate park, paved loop walking path, and four parks with play equipment. West Side park also has a prairie grass area & extensive plantings of native trees. During the winter months there is an ice rink with a heated shelter available.

With only a 3 mile drive to Chester Woods Park or a 13 mile drive to either Whitewater or Carley State Park, Eyota is the perfect hub for any lover of the outdoors.
